Craft Roulette episode 200

This is definitely not the favourite card I’ve ever made – I had my head stuck on using the comic block stencil, as I couldn’t think of anything else. I was relatively happy with it until I added the white highlights at the very last minute after the card was assembled, and I think it spoilt it. I rarely use the highlights, so it was a good teaching moment for me I think – and that’s what I love about cardmaking, trying new things and learning from those moments when things don’t quite work out as I’d hoped. I’m happy I managed to use Gina K products for my card, though, as that was my main goal for the episode, as Gina was the guest crafter for the 200th episode of Craft Roulette.

  • Project: Kid’s card – I always struggle with this one, as I don’t have children in my life, so my usual fallback is to use a goat stamp from Lawn Fawn. In this case I did sneak in one of those in the to right corner, but I guess in the end the whole card is definitely one for kids in general.
  • Colours: Brrrr – I chose a cool colour palette for my card, with just the slightest touch of yellow/orange in the party hats to break up the colour.
  • Element: Comic or cartoon – I immediately thought of the cartoon block stencil sitting unused in my stash for this parameter.
  • Random: Button(s) – I used small flower shaped buttons in cool colours next to the deer.

I started by lightly ink blending the top edges of each stencil opening, then masked off one section at a time and stamped the animals in each block. I then created a mask of each animal and covered them up while I finished ink blending the backgrounds. The only additional layer was to stamp and fussy cut all the birthday accessories at the end. I then added a tiny pearl/bauble to the top of each birthday hat and added the wee flower buttons.

Supplies used:

  • Woodland friends stamp by Gina K Designs
  • Happy birthday deer stamp by Lawn Fawn (from Crop & Create Delivered class)
  • You goat this stamp by Lawn Fawn
  • Masking magic by Gina K Designs
  • Comic cuts stencil by Clearly Besotted
  • Pearls/baubles are a mix of Studio Katia and Trinity Stamps
  • Ocean mist ink by Gina K for the blended background
  • Various Copic and OLO markers (too many to list, and I didn’t take a note oops)
  • Turquoise sea cardstock by Gina K Designs

Craft Roulette episode 199

Oh boy I really struggled with this one – I had lots of ideas but none that would work with the large animal stamps I own, that was the parameter along with the bookmark that threw me. I’m pretty happy with the stamped background, though – mind you, if I ever decide in the future to stamp a full cardfront with individual letters I’d appreciate someone stopping me haha. This is my 123rd card I’ve submitted so far.

  • Project: Card with bookmark
  • Colours: Bakery (I went with pastel images of macarons)
  • Element: Large animal(s) (I didn’t have much to choose from, so went with the elephant – I’d intended to say ‘don’t forget to take time to read’ on the bookmark, but as I was finishing it off at 1am I totally forgot that part!!)
  • Random: Add horizontal lines (scored lines separating the rows of author names)

Supplies used:

  • Harold’s ABCs stamp set by Lawn Fawn
  • Critters in the Jungle stamp set by Lawn Fawn
  • Book from the Lounging Pups stamp set by Hero Arts (originally a dog reading a book in a hammock)
  • Self Love stamp set by Fun Stampers Journey (for the relax, rewind, refresh sentiment)
  • Novel Prose bold prints stamp by Hero Arts (used faintly on the background of the bookmark)
  • Master Layouts 6 dies by Gina K Designs (for the grass die)
  • Inks used:
    – Sandy beach by Gina K Designs
    – Lemon ice, Sunkissed, and Pink pearl by Altenew
    – Fresh pear by Pinkfresh Studio

Craft Roulette episode 198

A really quick and simple card for Craft Roulette this week, using up some patterned papers in my stash. This is my 122nd card I’ve submitted so far.

  • Project: Spanner card
  • Colours: Butterflies (mine is based on different shades of blue morpho butterflies)
  • Element: Centrepiece (the telephone is in the centre as the main focal point)
  • Random: Dial (on the telephone)

I’m also using this card for the Cut It Up Challenge to use a new product, which is the Ring Me die from My Favorite Things – this is my first time using it.

I’m also using it for the As you like it challenge asking for our favourite paper brand – if I go by the amount that’s in my craft stash, it’s probably Stampin’ Up! – I do love the fact that their papers coordinate with their inks and cardstock. I’ve started branching out to other brands as well, though, and have to say I LOVE the Craft Consortium Ink Drops range, just flicking through the alcohol ink prints make me super happy!

Supplies used:

  • Ring me die-namics by My Favorite Things
  • Perfect sentiments hot foil plate by Pinkfresh Studio
  • Pool party cardstock by Stampin’ Up!
  • 2022-2024 In Colour 6×6″ paper by Stampin’ Up!

Craft Roulette episode 196

Now my back is improving I was able to get a card created for Craft Roulette again this week. Not my best work, but as Gina K says, “it’s better than horrible” 😉 In hindsight I wish I hadn’t included the brick stencil, but of course that was the last thing that I added and I didn’t want to start again! Definitely a case of ‘less is more’ …

  • Project: Celebrate (mentioned in the sentiment)
  • Colours: Apple farm (mainly red, green, brown)
  • Element: Preserve(s) (I added a canning jar with flowers)
  • Random: Add a dog (in my case the dog is the focal point – and it really makes me smile, it’s such a fun stamp set!)

Supplies used:

  • Paws and Relax stamp set by Penny Black (dog image)
  • Window Additions stamp set by Gina K Designs (Ball canning jar and tulips)
  • Self Love stamp set by Fun Stampers Journey (wine glass)
  • Love Big stamp set by Penny Black (sentiment)
  • Pattern Party stencil set by Stampin’ Up! (retired)

Craft Roulette episode 191

I adore everything about this card – this is quite possibly my most favourite stencil of all time, and the Glitz glitter gel takes the simple ink blending to a whole other level.

  • Project: Drop down (snowflakes drop down)
  • Colours: Supper table (my crockery is all blues/aquas so that’s what I based my colours on)
  • Element: Season(s) (I chose the festive Christmas season)
  • Random: Shiny (you can’t get much more shiny than that Glitz glitter gel, but I also foiled my sentiment for an extra bit of shine)

Craft Roulette episode 190

I was away last weekend at a wedding and totally forgot about my Craft Roulette card until late Thursday night – I’d planned what I wanted to do while I was away but I had to quickly pivot to make something totally different that was a lot faster and simpler! This was the result.

  • Project: Fun fold (I chose a simple easel card)
  • Colours: Aquarium (I went for aqua water with orange and black for clown fish)
  • Element: November (23 November is National Espresso Day)
  • Random: 3-item cluster (coffee bean embellishments next to the word ‘coffee’)

Supplies used:

  • Perk up stamp and stencil combo by Taylored Expressions
  • Cozy cup stamp by The Greetery
  • Cup refills stamp by Casual Fridays (sentiment – I cut the stamp in half so I could use the words in sections)
  • Crafty roast clay coffee bean embellishment mix by Trinity Stamps
  • Inks by Gina K Designs in (from memory) Ocean mist, Turquoise sea, Tranquil teal, Sweet mango, Tangerine twist, Faded brick, Kraft, Warm cocoa, Black onyx
  • Tranquil teal and Tomato soup cardstocks by Gina K Designs

Craft Roulette episode 189

I already had this card in mind to make this weekend so I was super excited that it fit this week’s Craft Roulette parameters – I just had to add postage stamp to the mix and tweak the colours yay!! I really loved making this card and super happy with it – it also doubles as my ‘card a day challenge’ with Mel’s Card Corner as well, along with the layer it up challenge over at the Cut It Up Challenge blog.

  • Project: A2 card (bless you Cathy Z for choosing this as guest’s choice!)
  • Colours: Forest (brown and green for trees, red for berries and toadstools)
  • Element: Starts with H (holly)
  • Random: Postage stamp or mark (postage stamp die layer)

Holly sprigs were initially ink blended with Christmas pine dye ink by Gina K Designs, then spritzed with Altenew Forest glades shimmer spray (probably went a bit overboard with that one!). Some splatters of blue gold Gansai Tambi watercolour paint.

Supplies used:

  • Sealed holly sprigs die by Spellbinders
  • Forest glades metallic shimmer spray by Altenew (used on the holly leaves)
  • Holiday flora embossing folder by Gina K Designs
  • Nesting postage stamp infinity dies by Hero Arts
  • Gansai Tambi Starry colours watercolour set by Kuretake
  • Sealed twine die by Spellbinders
  • Wax seal starter kit, red wax beads and Merry Christmas wax seal stamp by Spellbinders
  • Gold foil cardstock by Stampin’ Up!
  • Real red cardstock by Stampin’ Up!
  • Kraft cradstock by Gina K Designs

Craft Roulette episode 187

I created my Craft Roulette card pretty quickly this week. I don’t really give gift cards to friends or family, so I wanted to think of another way to incorporate that pesky parameter. In hindsight I wish I’d left the background white instead of stamping with a light teal. Not the best card I’ve ever made, in my opinion, but still happy to have another episode and contribution under my belt, taking me to 117 in total now.

  • Project: Gift card
  • Colours: Coffee shop (I did a google search and chose a colour palette from the results)
  • Element: Go wild (stencil animal print on the gift box, plus wild in the stamped sentiment)
  • Random: Add a number(s) (9pm in the sentiment)

Supplies used:

  • Rotating pool stencil by Taylored Expressions (to create the animal print)
  • Sassy pants birthday greetings 3 by My Favorite Things
  • Sea glass cardstock and ink by Gina K Designs
  • Dark chocolate ink by Gina K Designs
  • Kraft cardstock by Gina K Designs

Craft Roulette episode 186

I was going to go with an elf Christmas theme for my Craft Roulette card this week, but I decided to challenge myself a bit more. I used a stamp from Pennyblack.

  • Project: Cardstock + non-cardstock (patterned paper used to paper piece the skirt and top)
  • Colours: Santa’s workshop colours (I chose traditional green and red)
  • Element: Collar(s) (dog collars)
  • Random: Zig zag (on the skirt)

Craft Roulette episode 184

I just realised I forgot to upload my card from two weeks ago – I posted my World Cardmaking Card, but not my Craft Roulette one, doh! It’s definitely not my best card, but it fit the parameters – if I did it again I’d go with an ink blended partial background instead of the patterned paper, but I was under the pump to get the card done at the last minute (so what’s new?).

  • Project: Card for a teacher (thanks to anyone who’s ever taught me something, whether tangibly with crafts or with life lessons)
  • Colours: Tartan (I chose a Ferguson tartan)
  • Element: Autumn or spring scene (I went with spring flowers)
  • Random: Wrap(s) (vellum band wrapped around the card layers)

Supplies used:

  • If cows could talk stamps by Taylored Expressions
  • Ink drops paper by Craft Consortium
  • Grass border die by Gina K Designs (Master Layouts 7, I think)
