My first reveal card

Thanks to Jennifer McGuire for her reveal card tutorial a while back – it was my first time attempting one and I love it!

It’s been a long time since I’ve had an idea on the go-live day for Craft Roulette along with the energy to follow through. I knew straightaway what I wanted to do. The card also works perfectly for the Double Trouble roy-g-biv challenge and the Double D April showers challenge.

A work colleague asked to see some of the cards from recent classes so I showed her my Instagram feed – she saw a recent one using this stamp set and rainbow and said it spoke to her because she’s going through a tough time right now … so this is going to her next week.

The Craft Roulette parameters this week are:
✅ Peek a boo card
✅ First grader colours
✅ Rain
✅ Edge distress (I tore the edge of each of the washi strips in the rainbow)

Challenges, Craft Roulette

Catch up of Craft Roulette cards

I managed to create the following cards over the last month for Craft Roulette:

Episode 152 with Gina K – challenge criteria:

  • Project: Hinged (the cardbase is folded, therefore automatically hinged)
  • Colours: Kraft background
  • Element: Outside your window (I wish this was outside my window 24/7 – this view is my idea of my happy place)
  • Random: Faux leather (die-cut purse using faux leather vinyl fabric – and pretty much what I do with my handbag every day, just sling the handles over the chair arm so I don’t trip over it)

Episode 153 with Bitty Penny:

  • Project: Rounded edge (card base and background layer corners)
  • Colours: 2 blues + 2 (bue, aqua, green, yellow)
  • Element: Flowers
  • Random: Fussy cut (aka fussy cussed because I detest fussy cutting – but all the flowers and leaves were fussy cut after being stamped, heat embossed with white then ink blended)

Episode 154 with Alicia / Crafty Al:

  • Project: Shaped card (circle easel)
  • Colours: Yellow, green, blue
  • Element: Super hero(es) (in the sentiment)
  • Random: Fancy circle(s) (both on the stenciled images and the scalloped edges of the easel card base)

Hello friend

This was my Craft Roulette challenge card this week, for my 80th submission woohoo!! It’s also worked out perfectly for the As you like it challenge of your favourite between Love and Friendship. Obviously I chose friendship in this case – to me a close friendship has a healthy dose of love anyway.

  • Project: Card for friend(s)
  • Colours: Blue jeans + 2 (I went with three shades of denim blue cardstock plus green and yellow)
  • Element: Starts with “F” (I chose flowers)
  • Random: Stack(s) (some of my flowers are stacked)

Supplies used:

  • Be Bold Blooms and Club Blooms dies by Spellbinders
  • Most cardstock by Stampin’ Up! (Seaside Spray, Misty Moonlight, Night of Navy, Pear Pizazz, Old Olive) – and random yellow scraps from my scrap bags
  • Hello Friend sentiment from Painted Blossoms by Gina K Designs
  • Rhinestone basic jewels by Stampin’ Up!

A bunny reading

This random card was conceived because of Craft Roulette, with the following parameters:

  • Project: Bookmark
  • Colours: Grey background + 3
  • Element: Bunny or bunnies
  • Random: Swag

I decided not to create a bookmark, but rather turn it into a card and sneaking a bookmark into the image somehow. As soon as I got the idea of including a book about rabbits, the rest of the card was born. Probably one of the more ‘random’ cards I’ve created but I’ve realised it probably also works for the Use Your Stuff challenge this week of ‘Inspired by a book’! I think it’s the first time I’ve used the bunny stamp since the class where we used it, and I think it’s maybe the second time using the banner die … and first time using my new Olo markers – I need a lot more colouring practice, for sure!

Facing my Craft Roulette fears

This was made in honour of the creator and host of Craft Roulette to support her recovery from surgery from across the ditch.

This project in itself shows how much Craft Roulette has meant to me since I started card making. I’m one of those people who sits shaking in a corner of the room crying when I see robots and purse cards on the wheel because they stress me out, BUT I voluntarily made a purse – along with a robot tag – in team orange colours just to cheer Mary on in her recovery. Now I need to recover myself 😂😜I used weekender handbag dies from @concordand9th and a robot stamp from Lawn Fawn.

And just because I can, I’m sharing this in a few blog challenges as my first time using these dies and really stretching myself as a paper crafter.

Spellbinders ornament

This was my challenge entry for Craft Roulette this week – and only that, it’s also my Tic Tac Toe entry too. I chose the third column of Tree, Metallic and Ornament.

I also christened two Spellbinders dies, so my personal challenge is ticked off the list today too! And because it took me so long to stitch and finish the card, I think it fits the criteria (for me anyway) for the X is for Xtra Special challenge over at the ABC Christmas Challenge blog.

Quilting birthday

This card was actually for the previous Craft Roulette challenge that I entered just in the nick of time – but it’s perfect for the Time Out Challenges this week, also just in the nick of time 😉 The challenge was using the photo inspiration of a beautiful sewn zippered pouch, and I automatically went to the sewing/quilting aspects of this die set.

A couple of days late in posting, but the parameters for this card for Craft Roulette were:

  • Project: Birthday card
  • Colours: 3 bright and cheery
  • Element: Pot(s), pan(s), or bowl(s)
  • Random: Block(s)

Supplies used:

  • Geometric Quilt Top dies by Concord & 9th
  • Sew Lovely dies by Concord & 9th
  • In Color 2022-2024 patterned papers by Stampin’ Up!
  • The bowl was created using a coordinating die from Choose Grace and embossed with the Petite Flourish embossing folder, both by Gina K Designs
  • Orchid Oasis and Starry Sky cardstocks by Stampin’ Up!
  • Kraft and silver cardstocks by Gina K Designs
  • Happy birthday hot foil sentiment from Perfect Sentiments by Pinkfresh Studio

Vintage spanner card

This is my first ever attempt at the spanner-style fun-fold card. For something easy it melted my brain a tiny bit, but more around finding cardstock etc that didn’t look too drab but that worked with the vintage Santa image. This was my Craft Roulette entry this week – my 70th challenge to date. The parameters this week were:

  • Project: Spanner (I had to Google this one before I started!)
  • Colours: Vintage (I remembered I had a couple of paper sheets from Stamperia that had vintage Christmas images, so I chose one that would work OK cropped down for the centre panel, and based my colours on the image)
  • Element: Outside (Santa is outside on his sleigh)
  • Random: Textile (the two panels down the sides are papers with textile images that tone in with the other colours

Along with Craft Roulette, I’ve also decided to enter this card into a couple of other challenges too:

  • The 12 Months of Christmas Link Up – anything goes plus optional patterned paper (it’s very rare for me to enter two cards into one challenge, but I couldn’t decide which one to enter so I went with both!)
  • Tic Tac Toe – I went with the top row of ‘December Holiday, Use a die, and Embellishment)

Supplies used:

  • Pink Christmas paper by Stamperia
  • Pink textile paper from Elegance Elements paper pad by Lemon Craft
  • Season’s Greetings sentiment from Snow Globe Geetings by My Favorite Things (retired)
  • Poinsettia dies by Stampin’ Up!
  • Wonderful Gems by Stampin’ Up! (retired)

Lounging pups make me smile

I just love this sweet stamp set – Lounging Pups by Hero Arts. This card was originally created for the Craft Roulette challenge this week, but the card unexpectedly worked out perfectly for some other challenges too. This week the parameters were:

  • Project: Z-fold card
  • Colours: Green background + 2 (and neutrals)
  • Element: Rock(s)
  • Random: Floating

I’m entering this card for the following challenges as well as Craft Roulette this week:

Craft Roulette 114

We’ve been having rain almost every day now since the middle of February here in Sydney, but now it’s extended to cardmaking too 😉 I have to say the biggest struggle was only having two colours to choose, which makes it tough for a rainbow!

Supplies I used:

  • Grunge Festive Tones paper by Craft Consortium
  • Harvest Meadow paper by Stampin’ Up!
  • Umbrella Trio dies by Spellbinders
  • Rainy Sky stencil by Lawn Fawn
  • Shimmery White Embossing Paste by Stampin’ Up!
  • Head in the Clouds embossing folder by Spellbinders
  • Gina K Design inks – whatever was on my red and yellow blending brushes!
  • Sentiment from Warm Spring Wishes by Gina K Designs
  • Round iridescent gems by Studio Katia
